While that idea hasn't made it to the final plan, the new play space will put discovery, imagination and learning front and centre.
The new playground is the second part of an renovation which started with a new building.
"Every suggestion from students was to improve the outdoor area, it's their favourite place," preschool director Bec Hart said.
Instead of one big green space, the new design included segments including an active area and a quiet area with enough space for children to use their imagination or to make discoveries.
"Our biggest criteria is that it is natural and children can make discoveries about their world - that they can still go hunting for worms or grubs," Mrs Hart said.
The sandpit has been increased in size, while a tunnel and hill have been moved to solve drainage problems and a storage shed has been expanded.
Natural stepping stones, wooden totems and a platform beneath an apple tree - which can become a boat, a plane or a car will enhance the play area.
Mrs Hart said the new development had been paid for through community fundraising through the hard working efforts of several different committees.
"The time and effort would have been wasted if we weren't supported by the town," Mrs Hart said.
"We can't thank the community enough, it has enabled us to build this learning and play space for our children."
