AFTER deciding to leave the small South Coast village of Kalaru to be closer to family, John and Robyn Simes were on the look-out for a town with a caring community.

The former Wagga residents found what they were looking for in Junee.
"From the day we moved in, it was like moving into Coronation Street, everybody knew each other," Mr Simes said.
He said neighbours came from both sides of the street to welcome himself and his wife.
"They came to say hi, they didn't know us but they accepted us."
It isn't just neighbours who were friendly and Mr Simes said he'd experienced the same welcoming attitude whether it was at the medical centre or the Men's Shed.
"There's a real country spirit here, you don't find this in the city - it's what steered us to Junee," he said.
Mr Simes said residents' pride was evident and even during the early morning people could be seen tidying their patch.
"Junee's fairly self-sufficient, I know there's kids who go to high school and to work, but you don't have to leave Junee," he said.
Mr Simes said the IGA supermarket, recreation centre, golf course, footy fields as prime examples of the self-sufficiency.
"There's everything you need - you don't have to go to Wagga unless the doctor says you need to see a specialist - but that's the same no matter what town you're in," he said.
"You've got to look at the positives when you move somewhere, if you move because of the negatives, you'll bring them with you."
Sincere thanks to the people of Junee for making us feel so welcome into your town since our arrival in late June this year.
To all the families on Hunter Street who have gone out of their way in making us feel at home, the Men's Shed for putting up with me, the medical practice and staff, any of the businesses we have dealt with and council staff, pool and gym workers and the list goes on.
Special thanks to Jason for making it all possible.
This is a top community and we are looking forward to meeting and greeting more people as time goes by.
Wishing all a Merry Christmas and a safe and happy 2015.
