However, it won't matter tomorrow when the year 6 student at St Joseph's Primary School shaves it all off for the benefit of others.
"It's kind of annoying and it gets in my eyes, it can be a bit tricky playing football with the length," he said.
All the funds raised by Declan from his head-shave will be donated to Junee's Can Assist branch.
"I'm keen to keep the money local and the Junee Can Assist branch will support local people," Declan said.
Helping boost the efforts, the school will have a 'mufti' day with a dollar from each student going towards the cause as well.
Adding to the event will be school's teacher assistant Jane Davis who will join Declan in the head shave.
"It's a good last hurrah for our of our school captains," assistant principal Jim Ross said.
"This takes a lot of guts but nowhere near the amount of courage shown by cancer sufferers," Mr Ross said.
Locals can head to the St Joseph's MPC at 12pm on Friday November 28 with all money raised presented directly to Can Assist on the day.
