The GEO Group's Youth in Focus scholarship aims to change that by providing up to four young people $2500 each.
Whether it be creative, academic or sporting, the scholarships reward Junee shire youth who have achieved and are looking to achieve further.
GEO's human resources manager John Barnes said the Youth in Focus scholarships was one of the organisation's commitments to supporting Junee shire's youth.
Mr Barnes said achievements in sport could be involvement in first grade and state representative sport and coaching, significant improvement in grades before undertaking university study or a performance or exhibition of creative skills.
"An important consideration is how this will benefit the Junee district community," Mr Barnes said.
"This could be a life-changing scholarship for some, helping some people reach a goal they might not otherwise have been able to."
Previous winners of the scholarship have used the scholarship to travel overseas for national representative sport or musical performances while others have used the money to support their studies in medical fields.
Over the past three years the field of nominees has been quite competitive, and Mr Barnes said it was worth previous nominees applying again - as long as they still met the criteria.
Applicants are required to be aged from 13 to 25 years old as of January 1 and reside in Junee shire.
Nominations close on Wednesday, December 24, 2014 with winners announced on Australia Day next year.
