In what's quickly becoming a traditional game, for the third straight year the Brumbies will open their campaign against the Reds as part of the 2015 Super Rugby draw, which was released on Thursday.

They'll also play the Otago Highlanders at Canberra Stadium on Anzac Day eve as part of a five-game Super Rugby Anzac extravaganza to commemorate the historic day's 100th anniversary.

A massive Friday night clash against arch rivals NSW Waratahs at home on May 1 and a final-round Saturday afternoon game against Super Rugby benchmark Canterbury Crusaders at Canberra Stadium are the other highlights of the Brumbies' draw.

Moore said his rehabilitation was on track and if all goes to plan he will lead the Brumbies for the first time since Ben Mowen's departure in the opening round, but he will have a better idea of his exact return date at the end of the year.

"I'd love to be back for round one. I don't really know yet how that will pan out. I'll know more around Christmas as to how that's tracking," he said on Thursday.

"Everything's on track at the moment, so I'd love to be there for that first game.

"I'll probably start off playing minimal minutes and build it up over time."

Brumbies chief executive Doug Edwards considered pushing for a game on Anzac Day, which would have set up a clash with AFL club Greater Western Sydney – which plays at Manuka Oval in a twilight fixture – but in the end, he opted for a Friday night game to set up a big weekend of sport in the nation's capital.

The Brumbies began what they hoped would become an annual Anzac game against a New Zealand opponent when they hosted the Waikato Chiefs for a Super Rugby grand final rematch this year.

Moore said it had quickly become an important part of their season.

"That's always a massive weekend for us, and the way it was done this year meant a lot to the boys," he said. "It was a really moving occasion. It certainly was one of the highlights of our calendar.

"To have all the Victoria Cross winners at the game, and to be able to support Soldier On was a real positive thing for us and our club."

After opening the season against the Reds at home, they then travel to Brisbane to face them in the return leg in round five, before their first chance at revenge against Super Rugby champions NSW Waratahs in Sydney the following week.

All of the Brumbies' home games are at night except one – their final game of the home-and-away season against the Crusaders on a Saturday afternoon.

They will face the Cape Town Stormers and the Johannesburg Lions during their two-week South Africa tour in May, which will be followed by the bye.

Moore said it was important to have that week off after their long trip. He also said teams always wanted as many Saturday afternoon games as possible to help get families along.

"Everyone wants to have [Saturday afternoon games] ... you've got five teams in Australia vying for similar time slots; everyone wants the best scenario for their team.

"To have one is good. You always want to have more, but that's the way it goes – we're pretty positive about the draw."

There is no international window in June next year because of the Rugby World Cup, with the season finishing a month earlier to enable national teams to prepare for the big event, which kicks off on September 18.
