"It's a little disappointing in some ways, especially for the players who worked so hard over the course of the season, but they are still Madden Trophy league champions for 2014, which cannot be dismissed and was a fantastic effort by all the players," co-coach Craig Duncan said.
For most of the first half, Junee controlled play creating good chances to score but attempts either went wide, high or straight into Henwood Park's keeper's hands - with an effort that kept the Hawks in the game.
Junee's defence was also solid with Sara Smart leading the way with brilliant block tackles, she was supported by Hannah Turner, captain Genelle Keough and Ashley Fitzgerald who all played a great game.
Junee keeper Prue Asmus worked hard to motivate the players and had some fine saves.
The midfield combination of Abby Foley, Chloe Middleton, Kara Hancock and Taylah Howell played well producing some great defence and attacking play which kept the team moving forward.
Mel Garlick, Tracey Edwards, Lindsie Newham, Steph Johnson, Howell and Nastarsha Miller had solid games, with Miller scoring Junee's only goal in the second half.
Duncan said despite several opportunities not taken, the team pressed, defended and attacked well - even with rebounds doing the team no favours and finishing being a little off on the day.
"It was a great experience for the team and they will benefit from it," Duncan said.
"The resilience they displayed was inspiring and they didn't give up or waiver but just kept on taking the ball up and working hard in attack and in their defence."
"The effort by all the players was good and they are already looking to next year to take the next step."
Sara Smart was judged best on field and Duncan said was a deserved winner.
