Billed as the largest event of its kind in the southern hemisphere - the rodeo attracts thousands from across the nation.
The Hedlund brothers competed in steer wrestling - also stopping off at the Cloncurry Rodeo during their 2500-kilometre journey to Queensland.
Steer wrestling involves two riders chasing a steer, with one rider dismounting to bring the animal to the ground (bulldogger) while the second rider (hazer) keeps the steer running straight and true. The winner is the rider who brings down a steer in the fastest time.
Working together, Matt won the event at Mount Isa, while Jack claimed second at Cloncurry.
Matt's victory at Mount Isa was judged over two rounds with times of 5.5 and six seconds respectively.
When asked what's needed to win; Matt said it was simply "a fast horse, a lot of practise and a lot of luck".
"(Mount Isa) is the only rodeo in Australia where it's a running start, you're already going as fast as you can when you get to the steer," he said.
"It makes it a lot more difficult."
It's not just being able to wrestle the steer, Matt said having a good hazer was just as important.
"If you're too forward, the steer can just pull up and if you're too late, he can get in front (of the hazer)," he said.
