At the Murrumbidgee Local Health District (MLHD) awards, the facility received an award for the second year running for its efforts.

This year's award focuses on staff development, organisation and execution of an event designed to raise awareness of the aged care services in Junee.

Acting health service manager Phil Major said the forum grew out of the idea that the MPS was a one-stop shop for healthcare.

"Our forum was about helping locals be supported in their own homes through the framework of community-based aged care services," he said.

The forum provided locals information about various community based care providers.

Mr Major said a key part of the program was ensuring the MPS had resources available to treat people suffering from acute issues.

"Our MPS provides excellent acute services but there are services that provide sub-acute services and help people remain in their own homes," he said.

"Consistent case management by general practitioners, community nurses and other community service providers allow us to reduce avoidable admissions," Mr Major said.

Reducing avoidable admissions means the MPS would be able to deploy its resources more effectively and ensure accessibility when it was called upon.

The MLHD award enters the MPS into the state level awards.
