It will be the mother of two's first marathon, but she isn't chasing medals, she is using it to help benefit a good cause.
"The idea was never to be a world beater but to raise money - it's just to give something back," Mrs Lawson said.
"My training has been hindered by a knee injury, but I will do my best."
Mrs Lawson has set herself a goal to reach before she puts on the running shoes and is close to reaching it.
To boost the fund-raising efforts a charity bowls day has been set down for August 30, which will include lawn bowls, a barbecue, an activity centre for children and will finish with entertainment.
"The run is in two weeks but we can still fund-raise for two weeks more; the majority of the funds raised during this day will go to Junee Can Assist," she said.
The funds will be split between the NSW Cancer Council and Junee Can Assist - 75 per cent will stay with the local organisation.
"A small amount will be going to the Cancer Council towards my fund-raising target for City2Surf," Mrs Lawson said.
"Any amount we raise which goes to Junee Can Assist makes such an incredible impact on the lives of those who are battling cancer.
"Seeing someone go through it, you realise how much you want to see the end of cancer - it just makes you want to help out in some way."
