Radio for the Print Handicapped (RPH) broadcasts the printed word into sound for people in Junee, Canberra and Wagga.

"I was invited to the annual lunch and they asked if there was anything that should be changed," listener June Bennett said.

"I said they read The Canberra Times in Canberra, The Daily Advertiser in Wagga and asked why don't they read the Southern Cross in Junee," she said.

It was in 2010 when Mrs Bennett and her husband Ian started a campaign to bring the service to Junee, meeting with local community groups and council.

The Junee Lions Club was crucial to the development of the radio station broadcasting into town and the club put $10,000 towards a transmitter.

A second anonymous donation sealed the deal with council maintaining the transmitter on their broadcast tower.

"The Lions Club helped push for the radio transmitter to be located here," then Junee Lions Club president Peter Logan said.

"It's great to see after all the support the Junee community put in."

Mrs Bennett said she still got phone calls asking how to access the station.

"I'm really surprised people are still looking for it ... it's not just for people who can't see."

Radio 1RPH's programming co-ordinator Jan Hure said it was a pleasure to be able to provide listeners with information from the Southern Cross.

"It's being able to give back to Junee with a little bit of what they've given us."
