Junee started the game in bright fashion and while both teams struggled to dominate, Junee got the first goal after a good attack that saw Keeley Hancock beat the keeper.
Junee’s game began to fall away with passes failing to find their target and marking becoming lax and the team paid the price with Tolland scoring four goals to take the halftime break leading 4-1.
Junee was unable to find an answer to the attack of the visitors with Junee’s defence being overwhelmed and giving up easy goals.
The halftime talk seemed to spark the Junee team and the second half was a much better effort with Tolland finding it hard to cope with some excellent passing movements that saw Keeley Hancock score her second goal and intense pressure forced a hand ball that gave Junee a shot from the penalty spot that Ash Goode converted bring the score to 4-3 in favour of the visitors.
Junee showed in the second half that they are capable of playing very good passing football and the never say die attitude was quite evident with all the team pulling together to produce a quality second half that should have been rewarded with a better result.
The team has great potential but all have to work hard and work together to achieve that potential.
Not to be outdone, Tolland produced some good football as well and Junee had to work hard to maintain their structure and keep the defence strong.
Two lapses in concentration saw Tolland get two more goals that perhaps they shouldn’t but the final score ended 6-3.
Best for Junee on the day was Billie Deacon, Keeley Hancock, Teagan Foley and Suzanne Waia.
In the reserve grade game, Junee come away with a 1-1 draw against a determined young Tolland side and Junee maintains their unbeaten start to the season.
The game was very even with neither side able to gain the upper hand and with the introduction of new players into the side, some little adjusting was to be expected.
Both teams applied lots of attacking pressure and Lindsie Newham scored a great goal for Junee off the back of this pressure and gave Junee the lead which they held well into the second half.
A switch in positions with Hannah Turner moving into the front line saw Junee immediately begin to control the game and looked to be heading towards scoring more goals with lots of chances being created.
An unfortunate injury to Kara Hancock forced her from the field for the remainder of the game and the resulting adjustment took the edge off Junee’s attack.
A lapse in concentration gave Tolland a chance and it was converted to take the score to one-all where it remained at the end of the match.
It was a good team effort and the girls managed to adjust to all the changes that were forced on them during the game and will learn lots from the experience.
Best on the day for Junee was Ashley Fitzgerald, Lindsie Newham, Taylah Howell and Chloe Middleton.
Junee hosts Cootamundra in Leonard Cup and Tumut in Madden Trophy next week at Burns Park with games kicking off at 9am.
