As part of the 30th annual Rod Run from Melbourne, owners and drivers jumped aboard one of the Omni Buses Preservation Society’s buses and got a taste of what Junee had to offer.
Monte Cristo, the licorice factory and the Roundhouse Museum were all on the itinerary, while the ’rods sat idle in the sun as locals judged their favourites.
However, the car display wasn’t just about inspiring people’s dreams of owning their own hot rod, with funds raised for Cooinda Court.
The community-run aged care facility is striving to raise funds to retrofit fire sprinklers.
Up to $2000 will be given to the committee after locals and visitors donated a gold coin to vote or bought a ticket in the raffle.
“There was a lot of feedback and it was hugely positive – people said there was so much to do here in Junee and several were quite surprised,” council’s Cooinda Court delegate Jo Ward said.
Cooinda Court management committee president Patricia Butler said the committee had been overwhelmed and wanted to thank everyone for their support.
“There were so many people from out of town and locals, we’re grateful they (hot rodders) chose to come to Junee,” Mrs Butler said.
