Damian Lane was originally booked for the ride in the $350,000 group 1 race but was suspended for 24 meetings for careless riding at Saturday’s Caulfield meeting.

Connections then sought Michelle Payne to partner Platelet in her bid for back-to-back wins at Morphettville on Saturday.

However, Payne was suspended for seven meeting after she pleaded guilty to a careless riding charge arising from her only ride  at Caulfield on Monday when she finished third  on Barkly Boy in the Elvis Thurgood 34th Anniversary Plate (1200m).

Stewards considered Payne’s guilty plea and good riding record but could only reduce the jockey’s penalty to seven meetings. She will be able to resume riding on April 30.

Platelet, trained by Darren Weir, was ridden by Ben Melham to win the Sportingbet Classic-Goodwood sprint double at last year’s Adelaide carnival. Melham has been out of action for several months after surgery to his left hip.

Meanwhile, Gary Portelli admits it took Rebel Dane a couple of days to recover from his clash with star sprinter Lankan Rupee and he is happy the Mick Price-trained gelding has gone for a spell.

Rebel Dane chased Lankan Rupee home in the $2.5 million T. J. Smith Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on April 12, getting to within two lengths of him on the heavy track.

Portelli believes the extra 200 metres of Saturday’s All Aged Stakes at Randwick will suit Rebel Dane, which claimed his maiden group 1 win over the distance in the Rupert Clarke Stakes last spring.

The trainer is also hoping the weather stays fine and Rebel Dane gets to race on a firmer track. ‘‘He proved he was versatile and can run on all kinds of tracks but [his last run] did take it out of him,’’ Portelli said.

‘‘The morning after he didn’t eat his breakfast. He was fine but he just seemed very tired.‘‘

Rebel Dane is one of 16 entries for the group 1 race, along with Japanese mare Hana’s Goal, which has stayed in Australia following her eye-catching sixth in the Doncaster Mile.

She will be ridden by Nash Rawiller, while Glen Boss will stay with Rebel Dane which will head to Brisbane after Saturday.‘‘I think the Doomben 10,000 is the ideal race for him,’’ Portelli said.
