A neighbouring property had lodge a noise complaint to council regarding amplified music played during a charity event.
During their Tuesday night meeting, councillors were presented with several options, including escalating the complaint to the Office of Liquor, Gaming and Racing, issue a prevention notice to the business that would include a noise monitoring investigation at a cost of $10,000 to ratepayers.
Their third option was to advise the complainant to undertake civil proceedings against the Red Cow Hotel.
A number of councillors expressed concerns about the options presented.
"I have a great deal of concern about one particular thing taking up a lot of council time when there are other things that need to be addressed by council so council can progress forward ... and we do have a lot of areas where we need to move forward," Councillor Pam Halliburton said.
Cr Halliburton moved: "that having regard to the legal advice by council's solicitor and the lack of complaints from surrounding properties or the public generally, other than the complaints from the complainant, the council not take any further action."
"The legal advice is pretty clear, we have expended our staff and a huge amount of time, this (resolution) allows the complainant some recourse and it removes council from the equation," Cr Neil Smith said.
"The council does not have the resolve or the desire to move any further with this, council staff need a clear direction on this," Cr Smith said.
