Despite running up against a team that had already completed three other trial matches, the Diesels acquitted themselves confidently and emerged victorious.
"It was a pretty good game for us," coach Jade Williams said. "(Kangaroos) have had a long preparation and it was our first.
"We stood up pretty well against a well-drilled team."
The trial match was a chance for Junee to try a few different combinations with several roster changes pointing to future success for the team.
Fullback Daniel Foley and halfback Mitchell Bradley switched positions and while it was initially an experiment, Williams said it paid off.
"They've still got things to learn, but they were good," he said.
In his first game for the team, strongman Patrick Sagigi led the forward pack, creating chances for Junee to score.
"We got lucky with a few mistakes they (Kangaroos) made," Williams said.
"We both had the same number of opportunities, we just made the most of them.
"At the end of the day, they're going to be a top three team and for us to get to them like that it can only be good."
Other personnel changes included Simon Wilson playing at centre during his first year back with the club.
Captain Mark Halliburton moved to the front row, while Blake Cowled moved to lock and Hayden Diggins played hooker.
"You know what you'll get with Mark, Blake, Hayden each week, they're reliable players," Williams said.
"Once we've got a combination in the middle which works, that's when the results will come long term."
