NSW Premier Barry O'Farrell dropped a bombshell on Wednesday morning as he announced his resignation after a hand-written note thanking lobbyist Nick Di Girolamo was presented to the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC).

Mr O'Farrell had said earlier he did not recall receiving the $3000 bottle.
"Under his leadership the government had made some progress and getting some credibility and confidence back in the state government," mayor Lola Cummins said.
Councillor Cummins said there had been a parade of former ministers from the other party at the ICAC and criticisms from the government and there seemed little choice for Mr O'Farrell.
"It's only 11 months out from an election, it will be interesting, it's going to have to be a strong leader (to replace O'Farrell)," she said.
"(And) hopefully it will be someone sympathetic to the cause of local government."
Calls have been made to Murrumbidgee MP Adrian Piccoli's office.
