But far from enjoying their break from the paddock during the first week, the Rams will start their season with a trial game.
Junee will host the Crookwell Dogs' second grade team at Loftus Oval from midday on Saturday April 5.
Player and committee member Gus MacLennan said the team had been preparing for the past three to four weeks and expected training to move into high gear today.
MacLennan said there had been reasonable numbers at training with one of the bright spots being a collection of fresh faces.
"At this point in time half of those at training have been new," he said.
MacLennan said a few of the club's older hands had hung up their boots after winning a premiership last year, but the new blood boded well for the club's future.
As a trial Saturday's game will be open for people to register with the club for the season and will be a chance for the team to run out on the ground.
MacLennan said SIRU's third grade competition had expanded this year with Tumut and Young entering teams.
The Rams' first game will be on April 12 in Tumut.
Anyone interested in playing for the Rams can head to training at 6.30pm on Thursdays at Loftus Oval.
