THERE’S less than four weeks before the combined Group Nine and Group 20 pre-season competition kicks off and for the Diesels, it will be their first time on the field.

In the second pre-season competition, Junee will play Young at West Wyalong before playing Tullibigeal-Lakes United in Temora and Queanbeyan two weeks later.
However, new coach Jade Williams said it wasn’t about results, but getting game time for the Diesels.
“It’s not results-based but about trialling the team,” he said.
With the Diesels unable to make it to the West Wyalong Knockout last weekend, Williams said he was looking to try out a few different combinations of players during the two pre-season matches.
The aim is to help give the team a chance to hit the ground running ahead of Group Nine’s first round.
“(The games are) a good chance to see how the team plays,” he said.
Williams said it was important for as many players to get to training on Tuesdays and Fridays, he said extra players at training would create a bit of competition for places in the Diesels’ first grade team.
He said the focus for the team was to get the basics right first and it was important for the team to all be on the same page over the next four weeks – so far the focus was on defensive skills, agility and movement.
“We need more (players) to turn up so they can learn (practise) these basics ... we need to be running as a team,” Williams said.
The week before the Diesels hit the field in West Wyalong for the pre-season game, a season launch will be held at the Junee Ex-Services Club.
Club president Lloyd Nicoll several guest speakers would feature during the night and premiership teams from 1964 and 1986 would be special guests.
Nicoll said all current and ex-players were invited and said it was a good way for the club to get behind this year’s first grade squad.
