Swimming
IT WAS a busy weekend for Junee swimmers, with seven girls swimming at the highly competitive Country Regional meet held over two days in Albury and 16 competitors swimming at the Quandialla Carnival on Sunday.
Firstly at the Albury meet, in very hot conditions, the seven girls brought home a total of 21 medals and swam numerous personal-best times.
Medallists at this carnival included Grace Flanagan, 14, (four gold and silver), Esther Hampton, 12, (two gold, two silver and one bronze), Xenia Brookes, 12, (one gold, three silver and one bronze), Amelia Thomson, 18, (one silver and two bronze), and Julia Bonat, 11, (one silver). Eli Douglas, 13, and Serena Brookes, 10, both finishing in the top five.
At Quandialla on Sunday an invitational carnival was held.
Our relay team of Justin Wall, Jasmine Phillips, Brittany Sheedy and Lachlan Crawford won the nominated time relay with a time of 1min40.00sec and swam 1min40.09sec.
As well as this highlight, the swimmers brought home many ribbons for their efforts, these included Jasmine Phillips, 7, (two first placings, one second and one third), Oliver Phillips, 6, (two firsts and two seconds),
Hannah Pickersgill, 13, (one second and one third), Kelli-Ann Tuckwell, 13, (two thirds), Olivia Tuckwell, 9, (one second), Gemma Crawford, 9, Patrick Tuckwell, 11, Brittany Sheedy, 10, and Lachlan Crawford, 6, all won a third-place ribbon.
Other swimmers to improve their times were Justin Wall, 10, (10secs personal best (PB) 100m freestyle), Jake White, 7, (improved 9secs in the 25m freestyle) and brother Nicholas, 9, (10secs PB in the 50m butterfly).
Swimmers to improve their 50m freestyle time were Miranda McLaughlin, 10, (11secs PB), Emily Pickersgill, 10, (4secs PB), Rhianna Kelleher, 10, (5secs PB), Shaun McLaughlin, 7, (6 secs PB).
This successful weekend will be followed by our scond championship carnival to be held at Yass this coming weekend.
