Swim team makes waves

A TEAM of 15 Junee swimmers braved the wet conditions at the second district non-championship carnival at Temora on Sunday.

Briarna Robinson swam two personal best times in the 50-metres breaststroke, gaining a first place and a second place in the 50m freestyle.

Seven-year-old Jake White also swam two personal bests in the eight years and under 25m events, improving his backstroke by five seconds.

Gemma Crawford, 9, improved her fly time by five seconds, finishing second, and her brother Lachlan made a personal best time in the 25m freestyle, also placing second. He topped that off with third place in the 25m backstroke.

Jack Douglas, 7, placed first in the 25m freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke events with a personal best time in the breaststroke.

A personal best time was also registered by 14-year-old Ashleigh Bonat in the 50m freestyle, in which she finished third.

She also placed third in 50m backstroke.

The Phillips family had a good day with Jasmine placing first in the 50m freestyle and backstroke and swimming a personal best in the 50m fly.

Jasmine was also third in breaststroke.

Oliver Phillips placed second in the eight years and under 50m freestyle and backstroke.

Nicholas White swam very well, placing first in the 50m freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke and Brittany Sheedy gained third place in the 50m backstroke.

Both of these swimmers swam very close to all of their personal best times.

Grace Flanagan, 14, came first in the open 200 individual medley, 100m breaststroke and 13-14yrs 50m breaststroke, and third in 50m freestyle.

Esther Hampton came third in the open 100m breaststroke and backstroke, first in the 11-12yrs 50m breaststroke, second in 50m backstroke and butterfly and third in 50m freestyle.

Eli Douglas placed second in 50m breaststroke and third in 50m fly.

Serena and Xenia Brookes finished second and third respectively in the 50m free.

Next week a small squad will travel to Boorowa for the third of the district championship carnivals.

Club championships continue on Wednesday night from 5.45pm with all members able to swim at club night.
