Girls swim well at meet

FOUR girls represented Junee at the NSW Country Swimming Championships held at Homebush Bay over the weekend with excellent results bringing home four finalist ribbons for top 10 placings.

Competition was very strong from all over NSW.

Xenia Brookes, 12, had a fantastic weekend placing sixth from a field of 154, in a great time of 29.99 seconds in the 11 to 12yrs 50m freestyle and eighth in the 50m backstroke.

Esther Hampton, 12, swam four personal bests for the weekend finishing seventh from 136 competitors in the 11-12yrs 50m breaststroke and also placed 13th in the 200m breaststroke and 14th in the 100m breaststroke.

Grace Flanagan, 14, placed seventh in the 13-14yrs 200m breaststroke, 15th in the 100m breaststroke and 22nd in the 50m breaststroke in excellent times equal to her personal bests.

Amelia Thomson, 18, swam in the very competitive 15yrs and over age group placing 27th in the 50m backstroke with a very good personal best, 50m freestyle 36th and the 100m freestyle.

A team of 10 swimmers went to the last of the small carnivals in Ariah Park on Sunday also gaining very good results.

Oliver Phillips won all four of his races including the dash for cash while his sister Jasmine won the backstroke, placed 2nd in the breaststroke and individual medley and third in butterfly.

Nicholas White won the 50m breaststroke and brother Jake took 10 seconds off his backstroke time.

Lachlan Crawford came second in the 25m backstroke.

The McLaughlin family swam huge personal bests with Shaun, 7, an eight second personal best in the breaststroke and Miranda, 9, an eight second personal best in the breaststroke and five seconds in the backstroke.

Miranda also swam the individual medley, the first time she had swum 100m in a race.

Rhianna Kelleher improved her backstroke by a massive eight seconds and freestyle by five seconds.

Brittany Sheedy finished the season with two second personal bests in both the backstroke and breaststroke.

This Sunday is the last of the carnivals for this summer, the fourth championship carnival to be held at Harden.

Club swims and championships continue for another couple of weeks on Wednesday nights at 5.45pm at the pool.
