A SMALL group of six swimmers attended the third District Championship Carnival held at Boorowa on Sunday.
The highlight of the day was the girls retaining the Malone Baird Cup for the open women’s medley relay.
The team of Xenia Brookes, Esther Hampton, Eli Douglas and Grace Flanagan comfortably won this event by over seven seconds.
In the championship events the swimmers brought home quite a medal haul.
Serena Brookes, 10, took home gold in the 100m backstroke and bronze in the 50 fly while Grace Flanagan, 14, was awarded gold in the open women’s 50m breaststroke, silver in the 13-14 years 50m butterfly and bronze in the 100m backstroke.
Xenia Brookes, 12, took home silver in the 50m butterfly and bronze in the 100m backstroke.
Thirteen-year-old Eli Douglas was presented with silver in the 100m backstroke and bronze in the 50 fly and Esther Hampton, the bronze medal in the open 50m breaststroke.
In the non-championship events Jack Douglas, 7, came first in the 50m backstroke and second in the 25m butterfly and 50m freestyle.
This coming weekend, four of the club’s swimmers, Xenia Brookes, Grace Flanagan, Esther Hampton and Amelia Thomson, will be heading to Sydney for the NSW Country Swimming Championships at Homebush.
A group of 12 swimmers will also be swimming at Ariah Park on Sunday in the last of the small carnivals for the season.
