JUNEE Rifle Club’s Rob and Mike Halloran have placed first and second at the Queensland Match Rifle Championships held at Raglan.
Shooting in Queensland recently, Mike came away with the highlight of his shooting career after winning the day one and day two aggregate, the grand aggregate, and setting a new Australian record for the 1100-metres of 100.10 for 20 shots.
A 20-shot possible of 100 points had only been shot twice in competitions in Australia before Rob was the first to claim the record at Corryong in 2005 with a score of 100.8.
Following the Queensland titles, the Australian Match Rifle Championships were held at Belmont, Brisbane.
Here the Junee shooters finished around midfield with strong competition from Great Britain’s best shooter.
State team matches were also held, with Rob and Mike being part of the NSW team.
Australia and Great Britain shot for the Woomera Trophy. Rob was a shooting member of the Australian team, which for the first time defeated the Great Britain team with a margin of three points.
Next Sunday, May 2, the Junee Rifle Club will stage a .303 shoot, starting at 9am.
Licensed shooters who would like to try their .303 rifle are welcome.
