JUNEE hosted Gundagai-Adelong last Saturday for the first round of the 2010 season in wet conditions.
The club’s newest and youngest players, the GEO 6s, played their first game in the rain surrounded by a large contingent of family and friends.
Jack McCarthy scored the only try for Junee with great support from Thomas Walker, Samuel Sainsbury, Patrick Tulaga, Riley Crane, Blaine Linsell, Digby Makeham and Thomas Foley.
The final score was 4-18.
MPF Engineering 7s were next with Riley Crane backing up to join Brandon Buck, Liam Thornton and Caleb Vine.
Even though the team was short of players they kept playing with help from Gundagai-Adelong to give them all a go.
The boys are learning to play as a team which was great to watch.
Tries were scored by Jordan Seary, Brad Ashcroft, and
Tom Morriss, with Morriss and Adam Spackman kicking goals.
Best on the day were Brad Ashcroft, Byron Rose and Tom Morriss.
Junee Co-op 11s also had a tough battle with a shortage of players.
Newcomer Liam Hughes had a good game.
Instruction Company 12s recorded a 24-6 win over Gundagai/Adelong in a great team effort with all the boys playing well.
Best on the ground was Jacob Holt, Sam Jeffery and Hayden Evers.
Tryscorers were Jacob Holt (3), and Joel Kelly with Aiden Sweeney, Joel Kelly, Hayden Evers and Bailey Whitmore all kicking goals.
PRD Nationwide 13s had a convincing 52-0 win over Gundagai/Adelong.
It was a great team effort all round with some good tries scored.
Connor McCauley was on fire with three tries and got through a mountain of defence.
Adam Bradley, Hayden Ashcroft and Daniel Heffernan also had strong games.
Lokate-a-Pest 14s put in a good performance with a big improvement.
Bailey O’Rafferty was great in defence while Jarrod Kelly led the forwards well.
Jason Eisenhauer proved he is unstoppable with great pace and determination and some great team tries were scored.
Jason Eisenhaur, James Thelan, Jack Thelan and Liam Sweeney all scored tries with Liam Sweeney scoring three goals.
The final score was 26-38.
Best was Jarrod Kelly, Bailey O’Rafferty and Jason Eisenhauer.
Thanks must go to referees Blake Cowled, Tyler Woo, Will Holt, Andrew Heffernan, Jackson Price-Maxwell, Taran Scott and Cameron Hands with Tristan Harrison and Jarrod Kelly for a great effort considering the weather on Saturday.
Andrew Heffernan has been selected also in the Southern Country under 15s for his school and Will Holt and Brad McCarthy were selected in the Riverina school team.
Caleb scored his first try with the final score being 8-28.
Stuart’s Tyres and Batteries 8s had a tough battle against their opposition.
They all played well for their first game of the season and with a bit of tackling practice the score will improve.
Isaiah Field was best on ground for Junee.
Mac’s Meats 9s also went down to Gundagai-Adelong.
James from Gundagai played with the Junee boys and
scored a try with James Foley while Lincoln Bull kicked the only goal. Best were Lincoln Bull, Tristan Field and James Foley.
Junee Ex-Services Club 10s also played well despite losing to Gundagai-Adelong.
