Junee North performs well in Mortimer Shield

27 May, 2010 12:24 PM
THE Junee North Public School boys started the day on the right note, controlling their first game against Junee Public School throughout for a 22-0 victory.

Temora Public School proved to be too strong, however, winning 32-0.

The third game against The Rock Central School was in the balance right to the final siren.

The Rock just got past Junee North, winning 10-8 despite boys putting together their best performance and finishing the day strongly.

With 13 boys on the field and only ten-minute halves, it was always going to be difficult for everyone to get as much of the ball as they would like.

However, out wide the likes of Reuben Bondareff, Jason Hindmarsh, Damian Crozier, Blake Yelland and Aidian Johns all took advantage of the opportunity to have a run in a sport they haven’t played much.

At centre Ben Cook and Max Tracy both played strongly and when given the ball showed off their elusiveness.

Five-eighth Liam Hughes once again showed a natural aptitude for the game in attack, but particularly defence.

Dummy halves Ricky Russell and James Seton were Junee Norths’ unsung heroes on the day, always being in the right place at the right time.

Justin Jenkins used his size and footwork to full effect, while Brad Targett and Hayden O’Rafferty played at 100 per cent intensity throughout.

Lance Atkinson had some impressive moments, while Zac Harris and Connor Wright also gave their best in the forwards, with Zac pulling off some excellent tackles.

Special mention goes to halfback Cameron Hart, who unselfishly organised the boys on the field all day in attack and never hesitated in defence against bigger opponents.

Best players were Kauri Deacon and Bailey Whitmore.
