Jaguars pounce on an unsuspecting United

27 May, 2010 12:27 PM
JUNEE Jaguars senior girls met Wagga United at Burns Park on Saturday and came away with a 10-1 victory.

It took the Junee side eight minutes to settle down and get into a good rhythm before the floodgates opened and six goals went into the net over the next 12

minutes.

Junee improved passing as the game progressed and took control of the match.

In goal Kara Hancock made some great saves and was able to set Junee off on some successful attacks that put pressure on the United defence.

The second half was more of a struggle and with regular defender Chelsea McGregor now in goal, United was able to apply a little more pressure to the Junee defence to get one into the back of the net.

Junee then came to life and closed out the game with another four goals in quick succession, with the last three coming in a space of three minutes.

Goalscorers for Junee were Jessica Smith who slotted home a neat hat-trick, Kayla Wright (2), Ashley Fitzgerald (2), Keely Hancock, Kara Hancock and Emma Turner.

Best for Junee on the day were McGregor, Smith, Kara Hancock and Turner.

Nankivell Cup side, the Thirsty Thirds, played host to Henwood Park in a thrilling match.

The teamwork missing in previous games suddenly appeared and Junee played like a team possessed.

From the first kick off, Junee passed the ball around and made many attacking raids into Henwood’s half.

The many phases of one touch and two touch football left Henwood wandering just what had hit it.

It took Henwood Park a while to realise Junee was on a mission and it had to work hard to stem the tide that was against it.

Soon Henwood got a feel for its attack and started to make some raids of its own.

But these were turned around by the Junee defence or goalkeeping.

Just when Junee seemed to have the game under control in the second half, Henwood’s striker popped up unmarked in the box to slot away a header.

This put Junee on the back foot for a short time but, to its credit, it picked the pace back up and continued to put Henwood under pressure.

The final score was 1-0 to Henwood Park.
