THE Junee North girls played three tight matches, coming out on top in the first two before being
defeated by Junee Public School in the final.
In their first game against St Annes Temora it took a late run down the sideline by Serena Brookes to break a 1-1 deadlock in what was an even contest.
Against Wyalong Public School they were solid in defence and won 3-0.
Against Junee they lost 3-2 in what was an exciting game, with many long runs in attack by both teams.
Although disappointed, the girls maintained their outstanding sportsmanship at all times.
The standard of girls league tag has risen enormously in the past three to four years at the Mortimer Shield gala day.
Games now are usually tight affairs, played between teams who know the ins and outs of the sport.
Brittney Sheedy got a try against Junee Public with a bulldozing run, while Briarna Robinson and Emily Pickergsill had several strong runs.
Caitlin Crowley and Hayley Hackett did their jobs effectively all day.
Brhi Galvin was always dangerous with the ball, while Tegan Judd, Serena Brookes, Olivia Howell and Taylah Howell used their passing and running to create attacking chances in all three games.
Olivia and Taylah, in particular, went on several long runs.
All five girls were also dangerous in defence from the marker position.
