FOUL weather did not stop the Junee Diesels taking charge early in the Rick Keast Memorial Shield match on the weekend, roaring ahead to a 10-zip lead.
But despite looking strong at Equex Oval, the Diesels were reined in by Brothers.
In a sensational match, Brothers finished too powerfully to take the Shield home for the second year running, defeating Junee 16-10.
Tries in the 17th and 26th minutes by Willie Purcell and Jason Smith respectively were the only three-pointers the team added to Adam Huard’s single goal.
Former Canterbury Bulldog stars Corey Hughes and Steve Reardon shone for Junee, while Jason Death put in his part for Brothers.
The signing of the ex-Bulldogs stars for Junee produced a reunion of sorts between Diesels skipper Adam Perry and his former teammates.
The concept of bringing in the former NRL stars to the line up helped organisers raise more than $12,000 on the day.
The auction of Junee and Brothers jumpers made a $9000 profit, while raffles and an auction of other sporting memorabelia contributed a futher $3000.
The total will be distributed between the family of the late Rick Keast, the Kids Cottage Appeal and Junee Can Assist.
