WHEN you think football, you normally think of the star players who take to the field week after week, putting their bodies on the line to achieve sporting glory.
However, behind the scenes there are dozens of dedicated people in the community and football clubs, who make it possible for the players to take the field.
One such dedicated individual is Junee Diesels Football Club assistant treasurer Debbie Diggins.
While looking after three sons who play with the club, Mrs Diggins has taken on extra work to ensure the club has the best outcomes in gaining grants from various funding bodies.
Junee Diesels Club president Simon Vanzanten said it was time to thank her publically for her committment to the Diesels.
He said since November, Mrs Diggins had worked towards applying for numerous grants, and had been successful, thus helping the club in an extraordinary way.
So far she has been able to gain grants totalling $15,000 towards equipment, registration and travel subsidies for the players and to go towards the redevelopment of Willow Park facilities.
The most recent grant was for $5000 from the Department of Families, Housing and Community Services.
“She really is proactive in what she does and
it will go a far way in getting the Willow Park work (done),” Mr Vanzanten said.
“I reckon she would have spent a week on each grant, doing it in bits and pieces to finalise it and then resubmitting it.
“She’s in the role of assistant treasurer ... but she’s really doing about three jobs at once.
“She’s been doing a really great job.”
