Diesels’ country crown dream is over

17 Jun, 2010 11:56 AM
DIESELS stars Sione Tongia and Damien Willis made the most of their time in the Group Nine team at the Country Championships at the weekend, but sadly it wasn’t enough.

Group Nine’s bid for a championship victory was floored at West Wyalong with a full-time score of 32-18.

Group Nine trailled 16-0 at half-time in the quarter-final encounter and was level 20-all five minutes into the second half, before disaster struck.

Group Ten produced a hat-trick of tries, bolting out to a killer 32-16 lead.

Tries by Damien Willis in the 67th minute and his teammate Sione Tongia on the final bell, narrowed the margin, but it was too little too late.

With Group Nine out of the mix, Group Ten will take on Group 20 in the semi-final clash at Cowra on Saturday.

The winner of the Group 20/Group Ten fixture will play Group 11 in the grand final on June 26 at a venue yet to be decided.
