THE Junee Diesels came home on cloud nine last week with every grade trouncing their Tumbarumba opponents.
For the Tumbarumba Greens it was hard to argue the first grade Diesels 44-16 win on Sunday.
The win keeps Junee in third position on the Group Nine ladder behind the Kangaroos and Brothers.
Next week’s competition leader will shape to to be a beauty with both the Diesels and the Kangaroos near full strength.
After a sloppy start the Diesels led 28-6 at half-time but recovered to run away with the game in the second half with a great try to five eighth Jordon Walker getting the Diesels back on track.
Walker won the players’ award with forwards Cameron Woo and Darryn Deacon sharing the coaches trophy.
Diesels captain Brett Dobson had a brilliant game leading the reserve team around the paddock to defeat Tumbarumba 56-0.
Junee second rower Tom Diggins scored two first-half tries to see the Diesels lead 36-0 at the break.
Diggins scored again in the second half to snare a trifecta.
Tries to Junee centre Brad Diggins and bench player Hayden Diggins saw all three brothers contributing to the victory possibly cementing the first time three brothers in the same team have scored in one match.
Along with Hayden Diggins, Jackson Metcalfe backed up for the reserves after played in the Diesels Under 18s.
Other players to stand out were centre Mark Harris, wing Toby Sainsbury and hooker Rhys Clemson in his first game back from injury.
The under 18 Diesels had the most convincing win beating Tumbarumba to an embarrassing 68-0 at full-time after leading 34-0 at half-time.
Centre Trent Schubach scored three of Junee’s tries and halfback Mitchell Bradley bagged two.
Bradley won the players’ award and forward Ethan Simms was selected by the coach as the best player.
It was a good team effort all round with coach Josh
Whitty attributing the good attendance at training to the convincing victory.
The girls put in a big effort beating Tumbarumba 24-8 to ensure they weren’t outshone by the boys.
Elise Smith scored three of Junee’s tries.
Laura Daley won the players’ award and Lyndal Edson won the coaches trophy.
