THE April school holiday skate competition got off to a flying start with a crowd ofmore than 50 gathered to watch the talents of 24 competitors on scooters, skateboards and BMX.
Impressed with the level of skill Junee youth have to offer, Junee shire community development officer Jacinta Ryan said the day went well and was well supported.
“This was my first skate comp and I was impressed with the talent that Junee has to offer,” she said. “The kids were all supportive and encouraging each other as well which made it a real community event.”
Suggestions have been made to hold the event on a Saturday to allow more competitors to join in.
While the riders came away in top notch, Ms Ryan said she was disappointed with the theft of a skate deck which had been given to a competitor as a prize.
“Obviously this is very disappointing and upsetting for those involved,” she said.
The items are very distinctive and anyone who has information about the whereabouts of the items can contact Ms Ryan at council or notify police.
The next skate competition will be held in July.
Registration forms must be signed by a parent and will be available online closer to the date with an entry fee of $5.
Suggestions on changing the day of the competition from Friday to Saturday can be directed to Ms Ryan on 6924 8100.
