TWO Junee High School students will represent NSW Combined High Schools (CHS) next month at the National Touch Football Championships.
Off to Queensland for three days of competition, Daniel Foley and Elise Smith have represented their school and the Riverina well over the past few months to make it through to the tournament.
Selected at a CHS carnival held in Inverell, Daniel’s team placed eighth in the competition, but it was enough to get the local boy across the line to participate in his third national event.
He will play link for the team, which has been busily preparing with training camps in Penrith over the school holidays.
His peer Elise Smith will represent not only the girls, but her school and the Riverina.
She too will be playing for the girl’s CHS side at the nationals after winning the state title.
Coach and Junee High School teacher Andrea Fitsch said the Riverina had only won the state title once before.
Confident in her students’ abilities, she said the boy’s team was shaping up as the side to beat this year with some good talent.
