JUNEE Bowling Club’s greens were busy over the weekend with almost 200 people taking to the field in aid of Junee Can Assist.
At 6pm last Friday, the first of 180 bowlers rolled a bowl down the greens and for the next 24 hours, there was always at least four games being played.
The 24-hour bowl-a-thon raised $4700 for Junee’s Can Assist branch.
Organsiers were extremely grateful for the support received from the local community and beyond.
Teams on the greens included many local families, friends and workmates, including bowlers coming from as far away as Canberra for the day.
Starting strong early on, numbers dwindled slightly as Saturday became Sunday, however enthusiasm from bowlers ensured games were played throughout the night.
Following on from their Australia Day morning barbecue, Junee Fire and Rescue brigade got the chef’s apron on again for breakfast.
Sunday’s hot weather meant a few bowlers headed inside the bowling club to play some of the alternatives – including darts, cards, pool and scrabble –but were all out on the field to herald the 24 hour mark.
Organising committee member Kerrie Holmes said it was impossible to single out one person for any special mention but paid tribute to corporate sponsors including Big Springs Water, Tip Top, Junee Ex-Services Club, Hanlon Enterprises, Junee Bowling Club, and Karen Allamby Photography.
