Purse fails to topple Thomas in semi

29 Sep, 2011 10:12 AM
LOCAL bowls champion Brian Purse was knocked out in the second round trying to claim the singles champion of champions zone title at the weekend.

Playing in Tumut for the title, Purse came up against Dave Hart of Temora and in a tight match overcame a four-point deficit to win.

With the first round win of 31-30, Purse moved to the semi-final against David Thomas of Tumut playing on home ground.

Overnight rain hindered Purse and Thomas was able to maximise his home green advantage to drive the visitor home 31-20.

In ladies bowls over the weekend, the McGuiean pairs team of Pat Jones and Kathie Thompson defeated Nicole Clark and Beryl Lawson 16-15.

It was an even game until Thompson’s last bowl sealed the deal.

In the consitency singles, Margaret Bull defeated Barbara Anderson 135-114 in their second-round match.

Wednesday social bowls saw Barbara Anderson and Ivan Fitzgerald victorious by 33 points and plus nine margin, with the team of Barry Smith, Pat Jones and Ian Hearn running second on 25 points and plus eleven margin.
