Presentation night attended by more than 80 people

THE Junee Bowling Club held its presentation night last Saturday with over 80 people in attendance.

Special guest for the event was Martin Cousley who was the junior bowls co-ordinator with the Wagga and District Bowls Association.

Mr Cousley spoke about the importance of introducing young players to the game.

He envisages that there will be a competition introduced soon to involve all high schools in the area similar to the pennants competition.

The major award winners on the night are listed.

Last season’s grade six pennant flag was presented to the winning Junee side by district representative Lindsay Barker.

In pennants, grade four had a bye and grade five and seven had disappointing losses.

Grade five lost to South Wagga 5-1.

E Rylaarsdam defeated D Coleman 22-21, H Thompson lost to K Smith 11-17 and A Devlin lost to R Browne 19-26.

Grade seven lost to Ganmain 6-0, B Smith lost of P Harris 11-23, P Smith lost to J Dillon 11-31 and P Minister lost to P Murray 16-24.

The teams for Saturday are:

Grade four against the Rules Club at the Rules Club: P Price, J Passlow, M Holmes and K Seton; SJ Smith, SS Smith, A Shaw and B Purse; P Guinan, T Clark, I Hearn and B Fanning.

Manager is B Purse.

Grade five against the Rules Club at the Rules Club: L Billingham, R Woodall, J Puttock and E Rylaarsdam; D Ptaschinski, W Mann, BW Smith and H Thompson; J Hersant, R Minister, J Smith and A Devlin.

Manager is H Thompson.

Grade seven against Coolamon at Junee: B Makeham, L McGregor, R Lawson and BJ Smith; R Billingham, G Fitzgerald, T Ryan and P Smith; R Thomas, M Glass, T McAuliffe and J Wright.

Manager is BJ Smith.

In ladies pennants last week the Rules Club defeated Junee 45-27.

I Maher defeated B Lawson 26-9 and J Wilson defeated F Quine 19-18.

One game in the major singles was played at the weekend with H Thompson defeating T McAuliffe 30-27.

There are still a number of games yet to be played in the first round of major singles so players must arrange with their opponent when these will be played as soon as possible.

Turn around triples: Sean Smith, Noel Lawson and Arthur Devlin

Consistency singles: Lyle Billingham

Handicap pairs: Kevin McGregor and Dieter Ptaschinski

Mixed pairs: Helen Jennings and Wilbur Mann

Mixed fours: Barbara Anderson, Noel Lawson, Selena Garlick and Bryan Purse

Fours: Lyle Billingham, John Puttock, Roy Woodall and Ian Cooper

Triples: Peter Price, Brian Smith and Todd Clarke

Minor pairs: Noel Lawson and Peter Guinan

Minor singles: Mark Hogan

Major pairs: Bryan Purse and Ian Cooper

Major singles: Bryan Purse

Wagga district fours: Peter Guinan, Mark Hogan, Bryan Purse and Ian Cooper
