On the bowl against cancer

22 Dec, 2011 09:33 AM
JUNEE CanAssist and Junee Bowling Club are joining forces to remind residents to be cancer aware through a 24-hour event to be held in January.

The 24-hour bowl-a-thon will help raise money for CanAssist and also be great fun.

Starting from 6pm on January 27, bowlers will take to the greens until 6pm on January 28 – with an opportunity for players to bowl under lights during the night.

Rita Broad, one of the organisers, said it was the first time any event like it had been held in Junee and she had already started working to bring residents together in teams for the event.

Up to 12 people can make a team, at a cost of $60, with an additional $5 per additional person.

Mrs Broad said there would be a barbecue going during the 24 hours, with funds going straight to Junee CanAssist.

The funds raised from the event will go towards helping more than 40 people in the Junee district who suffer from cancer.

“The aim of our committee is to provide a service which promotes, protects and enhances the health of the community it serves,” Mrs Broad said.

She said CanAssist helps with the costs associated with treatment including transport, medication and other associated costs.

“The Junee branch has been blessed with tremendous support from both local people and Junee businesses over its time,” Mrs Broad said.
