Pacers Cup builds up

THE Junee Harness Racing Club has two huge events on for racegoers in the next week with the first of a couple of big nights of racing starting this Saturday.

Heats for the Milbrae Quarry’s Pace begin on Saturday with the final to be concluding on Thursday, January 26.

The Austin Dennis Memorial, Junee Panel and Paint and JJS Glass and Co Pace will be contested on?Saturday night when harness racing will be complemented by activities and entertainment for the whole family.

Racing begins on Saturday at 6.56pm.

The Carnival of Cups meeting on Australia Day will see $10,000 up for grabs during the Phoenix Accounting and Business Services Junee Pacers Cup.

The Pacers Cup has been won by a host of talented horses including Just Too Good and Paleface Adios.

To add to the feature event this year, the Junee Paceway will host some of the best drivers in NSW in the city versus country invitational drivers challenge.

Participating drivers include Blake Fitzpatrick, Dennis Wilson, Bruce Harpley, Jackson Painting, Robbie Morris, David Thorn, Darren Hancock, Steve Maguire, Bill Trembath and Norm Diebert Snr.

Each driver will have three drives on different classes of horses with the overall winner chosen on points.

Junee born-and-bred, and one of the country’s best trainers and drivers, Brian Hancock will be on course to

present the winning driver with the trophy at the conclusion of the drivers challenge.

The club has reintroduced the popular calcutta to the list of events for 2012, which will be conducted on course prior to the running of the Junee Pacers Cup.

The other feature races on the eight-race program are the Phyllis Harpley Memorial Three Year Old Pace, PRD Nationwide Pace and T-Line Steel Fabrication Pace.

The first race for the Carnival of Cups on Australia Day is at 6.17pm.
