LAST Saturday, the King of the Green challenge took place between the current king, Allan Shaw, and the challenger, Bob Thompson.
Shaw came out of the blocks on a mission and won the first three ends of a six-end contest.
Thompson, urged on by a large gallery, came back to win the next three ends to tie the game up.
Needing to play the extra end to determine the king, Thompson held onto the shot required and emerged victorious.
King Bob will next Saturday defend his title against challenger Todd Clark.
Saturday also had the challenge match between the number six pennant side and the combination of the fours and sevens.
Showing the class that won them the District Pennant, the sixes got up 74 to 48 for a 5-1 win.
Two games in the minor pairs was played over the weekend.
On Saturday Jake Hersant and Sean Smith, two of the club’s juniors, played Noel Lawson and Peter Guinan.
After the first 10 ends, both sides won five apiece with Lawson and Guinan holding an 18-8 lead.
The next 10 ends again saw the two sides win five ends each.
However, Lawson and Guinan scored larger
numbers to lead 31-19.
Hersant and Smith got one on the last end, to lose the game 31-20.
On Sunday, Peter Price and Glen Fanning played Roy Woodall and John Puttock.
With 10 ends completed, Woodall and Puttock had a handy lead 17-4.
Not allowing their opposition back into the game, Woodall and Puttock won nine of the final 11 ends to win the game 31-9.
Last Wednesday, 26 players enjoyed an afternoon of social bowls and with two rinks of pairs and three rinks of triples.
Winners for the day were Marg Bull, Selby Fitzgerald and Evert Rylaarsdam 27-25 on a countback from John Wright, Phil Kearins and Arthur Devlin. The jackpot was not won.
Sunday social had six bowlers play a game of triples and Sean Smith, Helen Ptashchinski and Harry Thompson proved too good for Noel Lawson, Corey Hogden and Bob Thompson 25-14.
