THE Junee Six-A-Side Summer Soccer grand finals played last week showcased some of the extremely good players and athletes we have in Junee.

All games produced close results with some of the best soccer seen in this competition.

Dirtbags and Licorice All Sorts claimed the men’s and women’s A grade titles, while Hell Raisers and EPS Eddo’s Plumbing Supplies took the men’s and women’s B grade titles.

Illabo Hotel has finally realised its ambition by taking out

the women’s C grade title, after a number of runner-up

performances over the last few seasons.

Dirtbags had to pull out all the stops to get over a determined and skilful That’s Gold in the men’s A grade grand final with the game tied at one all at the end of normal time.

Extra time was played and the winning goal was scored after a few hectic minutes giving Dirtbags the result two-one.

The game was played at a fast pace with both teams relying on sharp skills and speed to maintain the pressure and the spectators were treated to some great soccer.

Ben White was Dirtbags’ top goalscorer, with Craig Shaw scoring for That’s Gold. Best on field was awarded to Dirtbags player Steven Edwards.

Licorice All Sorts had to call on all its experience in overcoming a determined Drama Queens in the women’s A grade grand final, taking the game one-nil.

The winning goal was scored close to the end of normal time by Genelle Keough and gave the Drama Queens little time to mount an effective effort to score and take the game to extra time.

The skills of both teams’ younger players were impressive and complemented the experience and skills of the teams’ other members.
