Schools get sporty thanks to GEO Group

18 Feb, 2010 12:32 PM
THE four schools in Junee are the proud owners of new sports equipment, thanks to a donation by the GEO Group, which runs the Junee Correctional Centre.

Last year, the GEO Group held a beach volleyball and triathlon day to help raise money for Junee Public, Junee High, Junee North Public and St Joseph’s Primary schools.

The final tally of fundraising dollars was $1800.

Brainstorming ideas on what the money could be used for, the schools collectively decided on purchasing sports equipment to benefit students’ health and fitness.

GEO Group contract compliance officer Peter McDermott said the equipment was received in time for the new school year and students were now enjoying the benefits of using the equipment for school and after-school activities.
