Cricketers defeat Gundagai Lotts in Hogan Cup grand final
JUNEE travelled to Gundagai on Saturday to go head-to-head with Gundagai Lotts in the Hogan Cup grand final.
Junee lost the toss and Lotts elected to bat first but Junee took the upper hand from the start, having Lotts 2-1 in the second over.
Lotts then recovered well and made a total of 164, with Kane Hogan top-scoring with 47 runs batting at the end of the innings.
Daniel Pratt starred with the ball, taking five wickets to earnthe player of the finals title.
The other wickettakers for Junee included Thomas Crowder and Nathan Charlton, taking out two, while Joe Crowder added one to the list.
A very good effort was put in by all the boys in the field, making sure Lotts worked hard for all of its runs.
Junee started its run chase a little shaky, losing a wicket in the first few overs.
The side recovered brilliantly though, with Charlton scoring 54 runs and punishing the Gundagai bowlers.
Joe Crowder supported Charlton well, scoring 45 runs himself. Junee then lost three quick wickets to find itself at 5-108.
Mick Butler and Murray Garlick then came to the team’s rescue and put on a solid 60 run partnership to guide Junee to victory.
Butler scored 34 not out and Garlick scored 17 not out.
Junee ended up winning the match by five wickets.
A very big congratulations must go to all players who definitely deserved the win after being the best side all year.
