Finals action on the bowling green

30 Apr, 2009 09:54 AM
LAST Wednesday, 20 bowlers played afternoon social bowls with two rinks of pairs and two rinks of triples contesting the prize money.

Enjoying his first Wednesday roll-up, Tim Ryan teamed up with Coolamon identity Keith Browning to be runaway winners on 27 points.

Finishing second were Bob Lawson and John Wright with 191/2 points.

Last Wednesday also saw the ladies play a Fours Championship semi-final and Marg Bull, Barbara Anderson, Donna Beddingfield and Beryl Lawson skip beat Marleen Logan, Helen Ptashchinski, Kath Thompson and Fay Quine skip in a close contest 18 to 16.

Last weekend, we had two Minor Singles matches played, Saturday Richard (Coogie) Thomas played Ryan Billingham and Sunday Lyle Billingham took on Allan Kearins.

Down 19 to 13, Coogie won the next four ends to hit the front 21 to 19.

The next eleven ends produced some excellent bowls from both Ryan and Coogie and after 35 ends the scores were locked up at 29-all. Coogie scored a 3 on the 36th end to emerge victorious.

On Sunday playing on a heavy green, Lyle handled the conditions better to outplay Allan and won convincingly, 31-10.

Pennants this Saturday will be the final of the home and away games. The number fours play Wagga RSL at Wagga and need a maxium-points win to have a chance of making the finals.

The number sixes play The Rock at The Rock and also need a strong win to hold onto their top of the ladder position to go straight into the final.

Teams are on the club’s notice board.
