THE semi-finals of Junee Six-A-Side Soccer saw some classic matches unfold over the night with a number of games going into extra time and penalty shoot-out to decide a winner.
That’s Gold! continued their unbeaten run winning their Men’s A major semi-final against Hell Raisers and advance directly to next week’s grand final.
Thirsty Merks caused an upset over a confident Licorice Rtrs and will now meet Hell Raisers in the men’s A final. The game was tied at two- all before extra time, when the golden goal was scored after only a couple of minutes.
The loss of a couple of key players over the past few weeks was a definite disadvantage for Licorice Rtrs.
Team Judd reversed their result from the previous week when they took the game from Red Devils in the men’s B major semi-final and advance directly to next week’s grand final.
This was another fast paced, no-quarter-asked-or-given match and play was a continuous display of fast attack denied by solid defence, transition and the same result.
Putto’s Sparkies staged the comeback of the year to take the men’s B minor semi-final from Anzacs with an extra time golden goal after being down 3-0 at halftime.
Putto’s Sparkies will now meet Red Devils in the final.
Anzacs wasted many excellent opportunities with wayward shooting that in the end proved their downfall.
Licorice Htrs have advanced directly to the women’s A grade grand final
after defeating Topssip in a classic
game.
Both teams worked tirelessly to gain the upper hand but an early goal and stout defence saw Licorice Htrs take the match.
Junee Junction took the women’s A minor semi-final over an under-strength Drama Queens with Lauren Purcell scoring a hat-trick for her team.
The match was not one-sided and both teams had to work very hard.
Junee Junction will meet Topssip in the final.
EPS Eddos PS took the women’s B grade major sem-final with a hard- earned victory over MPF Engineering and advance directly to next week’s grand final.
Both teams played some very attacking football and relied heavily on their defensive players.
Sutfol had to survive a penalty shoot-out to take their match away from Salmat in another very entertaining and even game.
Both teams had good opportunities to score but wayward shooting saw a nil-all result at full-time and again after 10 minutes of extra time.
The penalty shoot-out was taken to determine a winner and even that went to sudden death after the first five shots ended in a two-all draw.
Sutfol will now meet MPF Engineering in the final.
Kemps Foxy Loxys also had to battle to make their way directly to the women’s C grade grand final after also surviving a penalty shoot-out with RTS Fruit Tingles in another hard-fought game.
The score was tied at nil-all at full-time and at the end of extra time but Foxy Loxys had the better shooters on the night.
Illabo Hotel again proved their dominance over Thirsty Merkettes with a dominant win in the women’s C minor semi-final.
Both teams worked hard and never gave up.
Illabo will now meet RTS Fruit Tingles in the final.
