Junee celebrates first win

10 Jun, 2010 12:09 PM
THE Junee Jaguars Pascoe Cup team has broken through for its first win of the season, accounting for a spirited Tumut 2-1.

The squad played some very good passing football and was solid in defence as well as attack, and its effort on the day was impressive.

The team went down to an early on goal after a scramble in the goal mouth.

Sticking to the game plan and trying to take the ball wide at every chance, opportunity came late in the first half to Steven Edwards, who slotted the ball home off a well taken corner after a scramble in the Tumut 18-yard box .

In the second half Junee settled quickly and did not repeat its past post half-time break syndrome and kept the pressure building against the Tumut defence.

Solid tackling in defence, good passing and good movement off the ball continued to give Junee the momentum to move forward and produce some sparkling attack down the flanks.

Junee created many chances and had a number of shots

at goal away with some near misses.

Some were cut out by the Tumut defence, but Junee continued to press and kept the Tumut working hard.

Ben White and Jason Mutimer’s introduction to the game gave nothing away to the visitors and Junee kept dominating and creating chances.

White capitalised and sent a great shot into the back of the net to give Junee the lead.

The team continued to work strongly and while it was suffering from fatigue, it still managed to out play the Tumut team to record a solid victory.

Best for Junee in a top team effort were Sean Kanaley, Steven Edwards, Chris Sweeney and Jared Baldry.
