JUNEE’s Thirsty Thirds played away to Lake Albert last week in what was expected to be a very one-sided match.
Junee started on fire and didn’t let up until the final whistle.
With last week’s loss still in their minds, Junee settled quickly and soon had Lake Albert on the back foot, having to defend the continually attacking raids of Junee.
On the only true occasion when Lake Albert got into a goal-scoring position, Junee keeper Darren Corbett saved a well-timed shot, diving to his left and safely securing the ball.
Mid-way through the first half, Josh Commins swooped on to a loose pass from Lake Albert and pushed his pass upfield to the winger, who passed it on to Tom Crowder.
With only the keeper to beat, Tom took his shot and slotted home the opening goal of the match.
Sam Nuttall was having a blinder in the midfield next to Josh Commins and once again younger players Joe Newman and Zac Hogarth were strong in their game.
The half-time break had Junee leading by 1-0.
A quick chat from the coach and some of Junee’s more experienced players had the team primed for a hard fight to secure the win.
Mid-way through the second half, Junee picked up its efforts trying to secure a second goal and raid after raid was made on the Lake Albert goal, with many shots just missing.
The final 10 minutes were frantic with both teams making many raids on their respective goals.
Best for Junee on the day were Josh Commins Dan Buckmaster, Chris Fish and Sam Nuttall.
