THE preliminary finals of Junee Six-A-Side Soccer were played last Wednesday night with a number of mixed results and some very exciting matches.
Topssip took the Women’s A preliminary final in a penalty shoot-out over Junee Junction.
The match saw both teams work very hard and finish nil-all at full-time, and again after 10 minutes extra time.
Both teams created many great opportunities to score but stout defence and top goalkeeping kept them scoreless.
The penalty shoot-out went 4-3 to Topssip and they will now meet Licorice Htrs in the Women’s A grade grand final.
In the Men’s A preliminary final Hell Raisers and Thirsty Merks provided some top-notch attacking football and extremely solid defensive work and with Thirsty Merks capitalising on some great opportunities they took the game 2-1.
Hell Raisers were well behind until pulling one goal back with 45 seconds to go but a lack of time saw their chance to equalise evaporate.
All credit to both teams for the display of football they produced on the night.
Thirsty Merks will meet That’s Gold in the Men’s A grade grand final.
In the Women’s B preliminary final Sutfol and MPF Engineering played a great game with both sides eager to attack and solid in defence.
Sutfol got away to an early 3-0 lead with MPF only fielding three players to begin their match and held the lead till the final whistle. Once MPF had all their players on the park, the game became extremely exciting as MPF tried desperately to get back into the match.
Play see-sawed but Sutfol took control and had an answer for everything that MPF threw at them.
Sutfol will now meet EPS Eddos PS in the Women’s B grade grand final.
Putto’s Sparkies and Red Devils also produced a great game of football with Putto’s taking the Men’s B preliminary final with a 1-0 result.
Both teams played the game with urgency and gave it all they had.
There were many fine passages of attacking play that were nullified by equally outstanding defensive play from both teams and the close result is a credit to both.
Putto’s Sparkies will now meet Team Judd in the Men’s B grade grand final.
In the Women’s C grade preliminary final Illabo Hotel and RTS Fruit Tingles played another cracker of a match that went to penalty shoot-out to get a winner.
Both teams played some great football and a little wayward shooting from both teams lost them the chance to get a result in normal time.
After 10 minutes of extra-time the teams went to the penalty shoot-out to get a result and Illabo proved to hold the aces taking it 3-2. Illabo Hotel will now meet Kemp’s Foxy Loxys in the Women’s C grade grand final.
