THE Junee Jaguars Pascoe Cup team travelled to Cootamundra to meet the Strikers and came away a 3-0 loser.
The team is playing some good football, passing well, defending strongly, attacking strongly and marking tightly but it is simple lapses in concentration that are
costing it.
Cootamundra opened the game at a fast pace and had the ball in the back of net within two minutes.
The Junee squad was able to maintain its composure and began to play its game as the half wore on.
It came into its own with some good passages of play that resulted in a couple of good chances, but unfortunately, the Jaguars were unable to convert.
In the second half, both teams were at full pace trying to dominate and apply pressure to their rival’s defence.
Some solid tackling produced a free kick to Cootamundra just outside the 18-yard box and another lapse in concentration resulted in a deflected shot falling to the feet of a Cootamundra player, who slotted the ball home easily.
A few minutes later, a penalty kick was awarded against Junee.
This was converted to give Cootamundra a 3-0 advantage.
Cootamundra had to work extremely hard to keep Junee at bay as the Jaguars applied pressure, but a number of good chances went begging.
Best on the day were Jared Baldry, Craig Shaw, Steven Edwards and Chris Sweeney.
The women’s Leonard Cup side had a solid 5-3 win over Tumut.
Working hard for the victory, Abby Duncan scored a hat-trick and was well supported by Genelle Keough and Jess Smith, who also scored.
Then Jaguars’ Gardiner Shield side also won against its opponent, Tumut, with a 3-1 final score.
Leading 2-0 at half-time Junee looked set to record a big score and kept applying pressure to the Tumut defence.
Junee’s defence held strong for much of the match, but a simple lapse in concentraion in the dying minutes of the game allowed Tumut to get a goal back.
In a solid team performance, goals were scored by David Dobson, Ray Jones and Jason Mutimer.
