Souths have reclaimed the coveted title of champions of
the Illabo Community Cricket match beating the North by 52 runs.
Last Saturday the South donned the green and gold against Norths in blue putting its best efforts towards claiming the title held by the North.
Both teams were pumped and ready for the 16-a-side, two-innings match pulling out all the stops to ensure they had the best chance in taking home the railway iron trophy.
Retired Souths captain Bill Muller came out of retirement to lead the team onwards to victory after captain Anthony Harp was unable to attend.
The best scorers for Souths were Andrew Hamilton with 29 and Jock Commins with 22.
The best scorers for Norths were Scott Friend with 22 and Tony Reece with 18.
Best bowlers for Souths were Bill Muller and Tim Stivens with the North Scott Churchill and John Hogan.
The half-time match between the women proved to be a hit with the crowd as Jenny Hogan proved she was the number-one player for Norths, scoring 16 runs next to the Souths best batswoman Emma Brabin with 10 runs.
Peta Fitzgerald was Norths best bowler and Emma Brabin proved her worth for the South.
Norths won the match 34 to 26.
While there was not as many spectators for the event as in previous years Souths captain Bill Muller said the day was enjoyed by all.
