Red Cow claims grand final spot

04 Mar, 2010 11:39 AM
THE Red Cow Hotel is through to the Hogan Cup grand final in two weeks time after claiming the minor premiership by defeating Gundagai Lotts by 132 runs on Saturday at Burns Park at Junee.

Red Cow won the toss and chose to bat first but lost two early wickets before Trent Charlton and Mick Butler combined for a solid 50-run partnership to take the

cow’s total over 100 runs just before drinks.

Charlton was out shortly after for 61 in yet another brilliant batting display.

Mitch Druce and Taran Scott both then produced their best batting performances for the season with 92 and seven respectively.

Druce didn’t look like getting out until he was caught in cover in the pursuit of quick runs just short of his century.

Adam Peade then came to the crease with eight overs to go and blasted a quickfire 52 with some massive sixes to lift the run rate and help the cow to 8/270 off its 40

overs.

Lotts got off to a solid start in their pursuit of the total as Chris Tozer and Mark Braun smashed plenty of early boundaries and were batting well until Dean Druce was introduced into the attack and broke the partnership with good line and length bowling. Lotts’ batsmen then seemed to crumble as the required run rate grew and regular wickets fell.

Nath Charlton bounced back from some early expensive overs to bamboozle Lotts’ middle order to take three wickets while Dean Scupin bowled some very accurate off spin to claim the amazing figures of 4-9 in his first bowl for the season and he cleaned up the tail with ease.

Lotts was eventually out for 138.

Red Cow will now have the week off before they play the winner of Family Hotel and Junee Stallions in the grand final.
